At the West London Waste Authority, we’re reimagining how waste is managed to support a circular economy and a cleaner, greener future for West London. Our Household Reuse and Recycling Centres (HRRCs) are key to delivering exceptional environmental services to our communities. We’re now looking for a committed Site Supervisor to lead operations at our busy Abbey Road site, ensuring it runs safely, efficiently, and with a strong customer service ethos.
As a Site Supervisor, you'll be the driving force behind safe, effective, and environmentally responsible site operations. Working closely with the Senior Site Manager and a team of up to 15 staff, you’ll lead by example to champion health and safety, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement in line with our strategic goals.
Operational Excellence: Oversee daily site operations, ensuring high standards of service and site maintenance.
Health & Safety Leadership: Promote a proactive safety culture, manage risks, lead incident reporting, and ensure all site activities comply with legal and procedural standards.
Team Management: Lead, mentor and support a team of operational staff, fostering a “can-do” approach and a commitment to excellent service.
Customer Experience: Handle escalations and ensure that visitors—public and trade—receive a helpful and respectful service.
Performance Monitoring: Track KPIs, manage reporting, and use data to drive efficiency, reuse, and innovation.
Budget and Compliance: Monitor budgets, lead procurement activities, and ensure full compliance with financial and operational policies.
Emergency & Contingency Planning: Maintain business continuity plans and ensure operational resilience.
A hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, outdoor environment. You are solutions-focused, practical, and take pride in delivering a safe, clean, and effective service to residents. You’re confident in supervising teams and maintaining performance standards, while also being able to roll up your sleeves when needed.
Proven experience supervising waste management or similar operational sites.
Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Confident people leader with a record of building positive team cultures.
Competent with data reporting, Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel and Outlook), and using performance data to inform decision-making.
Comfortable working on-site, managing rotas, and responding flexibly to operational needs.
Experience managing suppliers, contractors, and compliance with financial processes.
COTC Level 4 or willingness to achieve within 6 months.
IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification.
Project management or Lean Six Sigma certification.
Experience in reuse and recycling initiatives, and an understanding of circular economy principles.
This is a unique opportunity to join a team at the frontline of sustainability. As a Supervisor at one of London’s busiest recycling centres, you’ll be shaping the customer experience and helping drive reuse and recycling efforts that make a difference to the environment and the community.
When you join us, you’ll benefit from:
A generous Local Government Pension Scheme.
28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
Opportunities to influence real environmental impact.
A strong commitment to safety, wellbeing, and your professional development.
We value diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Help us lead the way in sustainable waste management – your next career step starts here.
