About West London Waste Authority (WLWA)

At West London Waste Authority (WLWA), we are at the forefront of sustainable waste management and innovation across our six boroughs. Our commitment to a circular economy and net-zero carbon emissions is amplified by our cutting-edge Digital Twin programme, which integrates operational waste data to drive efficiencies and create smarter waste management solutions. We are looking for a dynamic Senior Project Manager with experience in waste management and sustainability to lead our ambitious projects that merge technology and sustainability.

About the Role

As the Circular Economy Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for driving high-impact projects within the waste management sector, with a key focus on our Digital Twin programme, a smart-city initiative that centralises and integrates waste and influencer data across multiple boroughs. You will lead efforts to optimise waste collection, promote circular economy principles, and implement innovative digital solutions to ensure a more sustainable and resilient future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering waste management projects from conception to completion, with a particular focus on Digital Twin, our flagship programme.
  • Working with local authorities, community groups, and industry stakeholders to advance sustainability goals and the transition towards a circular economy.
  • Managing the development of the Digital Twin platform, which integrates data to create a central system for waste management insights, allowing for more efficient operations and better decision-making.
  • Overseeing project budgets, timelines, and outcomes for the Digital Twin programme, ensuring data integration and AI-driven insights for optimal borough-level waste services.
  • Engaging with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project delivery, with a focus on social value, access to services, and resource reuse initiatives underpinned by the Digital Twin data platform.

You will take a lead role in managing a variety of waste infrastructure and recycling initiatives that support the Authority’s strategic goals. This includes optimising the efficiency of borough waste collections through innovative route design, evaluating and enhancing site infrastructure, and developing robust business cases for new infrastructure projects.

Your Impact

  • Spearhead the Digital Twin programme, bringing together waste-related data across boroughs to create a comprehensive, AI-powered platform that delivers critical insights for improving operational efficiency.
  • Support resilience planning by helping boroughs adapt to legislative changes through advanced mapping and data visualization tools.
  • Promote a data-driven culture within WLWA and our boroughs, utilising the Digital Twin to foster better decision-making and unlock opportunities for cost savings and sustainability.
  • Champion circular economy principles and contribute to reducing carbon emissions in all projects under your leadership.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and innovative leader who possesses:

  • A degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field with a strong background in project management.
  • Proven leadership and project management experience, particularly in waste management, sustainability, or digital transformation.
  • A passion for sustainability, with an ability to integrate technological solutions like Digital Twin to achieve circular economy outcomes.
  • Strong strategic thinking, with the capability to manage change in complex environments.
  • Experience with WM Design (Routesmart) or similar routing software

Benefits

WLWA offers a supportive and flexible working environment, with benefits including:

  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • 28 days annual leave (full-time) plus bank holidays
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Local Government sickness pay scheme
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
